Review of Irwin 5464 Mini Quick Grip Clamp

I got these things for free, after I had passedthem up many timesbecause they were to expensive for a plastic clamp.
I must admit, grudgingly, that these are pretty darn good. I use them for clamping boards to the sawhorse,holding things in place for fastening.They allow you to get the boards sucked up tight before you drive a screw.They are pretty handy and have a good amount of holding power. They are super fast to use and are easy to adjust with one hand.(useful when you are holding a board in place with the other).
Update: after almost a year I have not broken one.

I own all the sizes of these clamps - and every style that Irwin (and the former Vise-Grip) makes.Unlike the previous versions, these have grip power that is stunning - I use them in construction to straighten 2x4's, 2x6's, 2x8's - even 2x12's - there isn't a clamp I've used that can do this except this new "silver sided" line.

That's the key here - make sure that you buy the Irwin clamps that have the "silver" nameplate - the other Irwin clamps will not give you this performance.Don't get me wrong - all of them do a great job - but this line is far superior.

Also of note - the heads on these clamps swivel if unlocked - something to keep in mind when clamping or spreading at unusual angles.Irwin has outdone itself in designing/manufacturing this group of clamps.
