Review of Locking `C` Clamp w/ Swivel Pad - 18 In

I recently purchased a floor model drill press (green brand) based partly on the large table that comes with it.I failed to notice (one star for me) that the table does NOT have any 'holes' in it for the standard drill press clamps that bolt down through the opening.

Even with a make shift table and fence I still needed some means of holding down my work. Trying to drill free hand is both potentially dangerous and disastrous to a work project.

The IRWIN vice grips with swivel pads seemed to be the ideal answer.However, as I scanned through the (then current) listings, I could not find specifications for the throat depth, I didn't know if I needed the 4SP,the 24SP or something in between.

An email to IRWIN customer service was answered the same day and I ultimately had a friendly exchange of emails with one of their CS reps 'Ken' who provided all of the information I requested.

I ordered the 18SPs through Amazon and had them in hand within five days.I was using them within 30 minutes of taking them out of the box. SEE MY PHOTOS ON DRILL PRESS.

PROS:
1.Tool does everything expected;
2.One handed operation;
3.Swivel pads has NOT mar any wood;
4.Once clamped the item stays in place;
5.Mfg customer service was informative and prompt to respond.

CONS:
1.Pricey item but works well, appears sturdy and I DON'T expect to ever have to buy another one.

WOULD BUY AGAIN:Yes, tool was exactly what I needed.

Review of 50" PRO-GRIP STRAIGHT EDGE CLAMP

I bought this item to cross cut 4' x 8' panels.I've used it for three projects and it is perfect for my application.I would however only recommend this product for panels that are at least 1/2" thick.It doesn't seem to clamp well with thinner material.

Review of Locking Welding Clamp - 9 In

I have a new one (ordered in 2009) and an old one (made probably 15 years ago).The new one
has no upper jaw brace, thinner metal overall, and doesn't have as deep a throat.However it
does have a wider flange on both jaw brazes.They work about the same.I'd say look in the
used tool stores and garage sales/fleamarkets- you might save a lot.

Review of Quick-Grip 53006 Micro Clamp

If you build scale models and other miniatures, you will find that two or more of these clamps are part of your essential kit.They are about the closest thing you will find to untiring fingers.They can hold softly or as firmly as any screw clamp.The parts and pads seem impervious to model making solvents and chemicals.
I also use them as a simple hand vice.Fixtures and jigs that utilize clamping can be taped to the jaws.The main bar can be replaced with a brass strip if you need a greater reach, but also need the smallness of these jaws.Household repairs?No.The slightly stouter Quick-Grips are much more rigid.These are for very light work and are the right tool for the delicate work of model building
I'd give a sixth star if I could!

Review of 24" Speedy Grip Bar Clamp

Like the title says, good for the price.It is a bar clamp, and it does what it's supposed to.Not the best quality, and the trigger operates backwards from most bar clamps; but hey, it is well less than half the price of other bar clamps.I have a few much better made bar clamps already, but with the price of these you can get two 'pairs', say 24" and 18" for the price of one 'better' 24".Are they the best, no, but they certainly are a great deal and are everything you need for most purposes.

Review of Irwin 226200 3-Inch Quick-Grip Corner Clamp

Absolutely DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.I am not kidding.Just like other owner's, I too had the same problem with it.The tiny c-clamps/rings pop off when you tight the clamp onto the wood and renders the clamp useless.This happened on the first project that I used it on and now the c-clamp is gone and the product is useless without the part.DO NOT BUY.The manufacturer should be ashamed of themselves for making such a cheaply built product.Other manufacturers make this same style product, but they don't use the cheap c-clamp keeper rings.Didn't they test the product before they put it out on the market?The manufacturer should refund everyone who has ever purchased this item because this problem will and has happened to every Irwin 226200 corner clamp that they have made, not just mine.BOOOOO!

Review of Irwin 224134 Quick-Grip 3/4-Inch Pipe Clamp

The few negative reviews here about the clutches being installed backwards almost kept me from buying these, but I decided to give them a try anyway since intuitively it seemed that the clutches and spring must be user serviceable.They arrived a day ago and I just got some black iron pipe for them to check fit and operation, and I must say I am very impressed with these clamps.The fit is tight and precise, the screw turns easily without binding, and the sliding jaw moves easily along the pipe.Cosmetically they are much nicer than any other I have seen in stores.The clutches on mine were all installed properly -- however, had they been installed in any other manner I could have simply compressed the spring by hand, removed the clutch plates and reinstalled them in the correct orientation!No problems there (I tried it and verified that if installed upside-down they will cause the problem mentioned in previous reviews, but as I said this is easily fixed).I bought these because of the extended height of the feet, which do allow knuckle clearance when operating the hand screw.The feet seem to be wider also, making these more stable.One thing I did notice is that the entire screw length can not be used due to the handle butting up against the end of the clamp when tightened all the way (maybe an inch of unused threads) but this is trivial -- there is plenty of thread length to do the job.I bought four sets of these for some furniture building projects I am working on, and will buy more in the future!The only things this clamp does not have vs. the Rockler ones is the lip on the threaded foot for hanging on a rack, and pre-drilled holes for mounting extention blocks.I plan to take a 2x4 and cut some notches in it so I can simply slide the pipe into the notch with the threaded jaw resting on the top for easy hanging, and if I ever need to mount anything to the jaws I can drill the holes easily enough.I do like the fact that the pipe does not have to be threaded, although the pipe I bought has threads cut and it works great.If you're looking for a high-quality pipe clamp buy these!Feel free to email questions to me (just remove the "nospam" from the address).

Review of Irwin 536QCN Quick-Grip Bar Clamp

This clamp uses the ingenius trigger grip design for unbelievable ease of use.This makes the clamp unbelievably easy to tighten using one hand.A few warnings about this particular product, however:
(1)Be sure the size is correct.I think the 36" size is too big for all but the biggest projects.I think the 18" size is the best all-around size.
(2)The plastic construction makes the clamps best for holding items "approximately" in place.If you need total clamping for cutting precision, look elsewhere.
All in all, a good product if it is the right size, and used for the right purpose.

Review of Jorgensen 50 Pony 3/4-Inch Pipe Clamp Fixture

These clamps are great and no matter how many you own you will always need one more.To make them even more usable buy pipe that is threaded on both ends.Then you can use a connector to join the pipes together if you need a longer clamp.We connected five 48" bars together once to make a 20' clamp and used it to draw up the rails on a deck.

With both ends threaded you'll need to protect the threads on the exposed end of the clamp.For 3/4" pipe I use 1" heavy rubber chair foot protectors.They are the rubber pads you often see used on the bottom of a cane or pair of crutches. You should be able to find them at any hardware or big box store sold in packs of four for a couple dollars. Just think of it as a low cost investment that may save you a lot of grief later on. The pads last almost ten years before they dry out and need to be replaced. They'll not only protect the pipe threads but if you ever stand them up on end, and we all do, they won't slip and possibly damage a job site floor.When doing a kitchen one of our guys had a clamp slip and the cost of the floor repair would have bought more pads than you and I both would have used in several lifetimes.

Additionally, you should consider putting rubber pads on the end all of your pipe clamps whether they're threaded or not. I have a crescent shaped scar on my right foot that is a constant reminder that every pipe clamp needs a rubber pad on the end.For almost 30 years I've kept pads on every 3/4" pipe clamp I own and if the pad is off or missing it does not leave the shop.

Review of E. Emerson Tool T-50 All in One Clamp 50-Inch Double Grip Bench Clamp with T-track

I bought the T-50 50" Double Grip Bench Clamp with T-track for a large acrylic project. Cell cast acrylic sheets, 1/2 and 3/8" thickness, were cut with the T-50 as a guide for my circular saw. The T-50 is light for its size, is easy to allign and clamps well - lots of force and without losing my allignment. It held the acrylic well while the cuts were made - even 48" cuts while clamped on smooth acrylic edges. I was able to hold very close tolerances on all cuts, exceeding my expectations.

I have also used the T-50 on additional projects - including particle wood and plywood - usually as a router or saw guide. It has performed well on all occasions.

Review of Pony 52 2-1/2-Inch Pipe Clamp Fixture for 1/2-Inch Black Pipe

These clamps are the little cousin of Pony's great 3/4" pipe clamps. While the 1/2" clamps work fine within their limits, they do havelimits.Applying a lot of pressure will flex a 1/2" pipe, possiblyleading to an out of square joint.I also do not think that the clamptightening mechanism is as well made as on the 3/4" clamps, but it isstill pretty good.I have several of these clamps and while I think theyare a good value for the money, I would suggest spending a few more dollarsfor the 3/4" clamps.

Review of Quick-Grip 5412 Mini Bar Clamp

I have at least a dozen of these.They're very useful for holding a stop in place or for jigs or to hold something lightly while applying larger clamps or even to hang up your coat.They are just the right size for such purposes--the "micro" clamps are too small (although they do have their place) and the regular too heavy to be convenient.They can be manipulated with one hand, which makes them more convenient than "F" or "C" clamps.

They aren't substitutes for larger clamps--they're "mini" after all.Clamping force is not huge, but enough to be very useful for many purposes.

Action is almost but not quite parallel--clamping down will sometimes shift one of the pieces being clamped--this hasn't been a problem for me but it's something to be aware of.If you absolutely need a parallel-action clamp these aren't the right clamp for you.

One thing to do when you get them.Give the bar a thorough wipedown with solvent or degreaser--half of mine when they came had grease on them and they slipped as a result.Once I cleaned the grease off they worked much, much more satisfactorily.

Review of Irwin Quick-Grip C-Clamp - 2in.

These clamps are very sturdy, easy to clamp down hard, the threads turn smoothly, and as far as I can tell they are pretty rust resistent.I purchased 10 of these to use for wide panel glue-ups, where I place a clamp at each glue joint (sometimes with and sometimes without a straight edge to clamp against).I find that this helps me to align the boards perfectly while the glue is still wet and thus I have a lot less sanding to do later.The threads on these clamps are fine enough that I can really ease up to the maximum pressure I am going for without clamping with too much force.In the rare instances when I have really wanted to apply some torque with these, the handles have not flexed or bent at all (which is a problem with some of the cheaper c-clamps I have used).

If you have a need for some small c-clamps, I highly recommend these!

These are the best plier locking type of clamps I've found.I tried the crescent ones, which wore out pretty quickly.The only problem I've ever had with these is getting weld slag on the clamp tips or screw threads.If the spring breaks, as it will tend to after several years of abuse, it's tricky to replace.I've gotten the replacement springs from my industrial hardware supplier, who probably found something similar and sells them as replacements.So, I'm sure they can be found at any good hardware store.

Review of Quick-Grip 546 Mini Bar Clamp

I have several of these clamps purchased in the late 90's when they were marketed by American Tool Companies.They have been fantastic clamps and are the first clamps that I reach for when working on small projects.

I recently purchased some of the newer Irwin Mini Quick-Grip clamps, which seemed identical to the old ones except for the blue color.Unfortunately, the pistol grip trigger on the newer Irwin clamps does not engage the bar until it has been depressed about half way.The trigger on my older clamps engages immediately and advances the bar much further for each squeeze.In searching through the clamps on display at a local store, I found that the trigger action varied considerably.I was able to find a pair that worked reasonably well, but not nearly as well as my older American Tool Mini Quick-Grips.

The bar on the newer Irwin clamps also seems to be made of a softer steel.The locking mechanism leaves a groove in the bar each time the clamp is locked securely.The bars on my old clamps are still perfectly smooth after years of use.
