Here is how I used them. Using a measure, I laid out a pencil line of my cut plus the distance from the edge of my circular saw fence to the blade plus a thirty second to leave for finish sanding. Then I carefully attached the bar clamp to the piece. They attach white tightly without marring the surface. Then I simply held the circular saw against the clamp and made my cut.
Please note, these do not automatically attached at a perfect 90-degree angle. You must carefully align them to your desired angle. I see this as a feature as it has allowed me to make plus or minus five or ten degree cuts. It also allowed the tolerance I needed to square my wood since I do not have a planer.
From what I've read, there are much better clamps out there, but I don't know enough to realize why you would pay much more money for them. These attach firmly without marring. They are very rigid from side to side. They are easy to use. They work.
I am an infrequent wood worker, and I highly recommend them. I built several pieces of furniture (bookshelves, a full length mirror, and a decorative ladder to hang clothes on) with them with great success.
